Focused Work
Deep, seasonal garden care for moments when routine maintenance isn’t enough.
Focused Work is a dedicated garden visit designed to reset, refine, and guide growth forward.
It’s for areas that have become crowded, overgrown, or quietly off track and need time, attention, and informed decision-making.
This is not weekly upkeep.
It’s thoughtful, hands-on work, timed to the season.
What Focused Work Is
Focused Work allows our team the time to slow down and really look at a garden — observing structure, light, spacing, and plant relationships before making cuts or changes.
These visits are shaped around the needs of the garden in that moment and may include:
Selective pruning to restore structure, light, and airflow
Thinning and editing overcrowded plantings
Resetting shrubs or perennials that have outgrown their place
Bed refinement, grooming, and preparation for the season ahead
Hedge work or detailed shaping where precision matters
The goal is not to make everything smaller — but to help the garden grow more clearly and with better balance.
Clients often request Focused Work when:
A garden feels overgrown, heavy, or visually confusing
Plants are healthy but no longer well-proportioned
Seasonal timing matters and shortcuts won’t do
A specific area needs attention before moving forward
Routine visits aren’t allowing enough time for deeper care
Focused Work is especially useful during seasonal transitions, when thoughtful intervention can set the tone for months or years ahead.
When Clients Choose Focused Work
How Focused Work Is Different
Focused Work is not a checklist visit.
It’s built around observation, horticultural knowledge, and careful decision-making, allowing room for nuance rather than rushing from task to task.
We work plant by plant when needed, prioritizing long-term structure over short-term tidiness.
Cuts are intentional. Edits are considered. Nothing is done on autopilot.
This approach often results in fewer interventions later, because the right work is done at the right time.
Focused Work visits are typically scheduled as half-day or full-day blocks, depending on the scope of the area and the season.
Work is billed on time and materials, allowing flexibility as conditions reveal themselves during the visit. Gardens are living systems, and part of the value of Focused Work is allowing space to respond thoughtfully as we go.
If you’re unsure how much time your garden needs, we’re happy to help assess that with you.
